Item: 1 poster detailing a small part of the Sistine Chapel ceiling

This print shows part of the Creation of Adam fresco, the part where you only see 2 hands.  You can tell which is which just from this, because God's is tensed and muscular, and Adam's is limp and lifeless.  You can still see dust under Adam's fingernails - the dust of the ground, from which he was formed.  It's said that Michelangelo painted the frescoes on the Sistine ceiling in reverse chronological order.  I would love to actually get to see them, and follow the progression.

Michelangelo was also a poet, and wrote a line about being "so near to death and so far from God." Si presso a morte e si lontan da Dio.  I never get tired of looking at this picture, partly because it's a beautiful piece of art, but mostly because it's the opposite of distance: it's God doing the reaching.  God and man are only about an inch apart.
